Children Home 'EL REDIL' in Santa Cruz.

The children home in Santa Cruz is built in the first place for the children in jail. When the father or mother is condemned to go to the prison they are almost forced to stay with them in jail and that for a long time. As you understand they don’t learn there so many go things in a place like this. On the contrary!

When the people of Mision Timoteo met this problem for the first time there were about 800 till 1000 children in jail. The Mision decided to start their work with this group of children. Cooperation from the authorities was out of question in the beginning. However, this changed during the following years also because other organizations followed the vision of Mision Timoteo and took care of many of those children.

The first unit at Redil was opened in Januar 1996. Meanwhile  Redil has grown and looks like a small village now. There is space for about 50 children.

Redil consists of:

• 5 units, houses where about 10 children live with substitute parents. Like a normal family.
• A house for the director and his family
• Some other houses for workers
• A small house for  teenagers. In that way they can learn how to live independent
• A central kitchen
• A large community room for the activities to do together
• A library en some service departments
• And there is a very nice sockerfield.
